For large organizations, it’s really challenging to keep track of critical assets while reporting real-time items that keep relocating. It is a situation that, without a dependable, automatic asset management system, often rises redundancies, expenditures and labor.
Traditional asset management is often cost both time and labor, that causing redundant purchases and reducing productivity. As technology has tried to keep pace with organizational demands, recent advances in RFID systems have elevated location tracking and reporting to faster, more accurate inventory and asset management.
The great RFID system is one of the beneficial systems that can be integrated with Dynamics AX 2012 for magnificent results. (RFID) combines silicon chip and radio frequency technology to track inventory, to its Microsoft Dynamics AX Warehouse Management software.
RFID has been lauded by manufacturers and retailers for its ability to provide better information about inventory and other data across the supply chain, which can increase product availability and help businesses reduce costs by trimming inventory levels. The introduction of RFID functionality into Dynamics AX now allow smaller companies to take advantage of the innovative wireless technology and steals the lead on many other mid-market solutions that have yet to embrace this technology.
How It Works
The way it works is that RFID “tags”, which contain a special radio frequency-emitting microchip, are attached to each carton or box of goods. The microchip wirelessly broadcasts information about itself, such as its location and its origin. Each tag has a unique number, or electronic product code (EPC). The tags are monitored at storage, loading and shipment, and the data is fed back into Dynamics AX.
Unlike bar-codes which are limited to line-of-sight, Radio Frequency Identification and its reliance on radio waves does not require a straight-line alignment between the tags and the readers. Bar-coding is already a well-established feature of Dynamics AX but now with RFID the opportunity exists to asset track items in a much more efficient manner.
Microsoft have also created several tools, using its own .Net Web services framework, that will allow retailers to interact with customers, improve operations management and incorporate RFID.
